Work on “version 2.0″ of Rex: Another Island is going well. We’re using the excuse of having to get the game multilingual and Steam-ready, as a chance to go back and smooth out some rougher edges.

The “map” button is now a dedicated “zoom out” that you hold down. You can still move and jump while zoomed out, and aside from being able to see much more than usual (those pesky rings can be anywhere!), it now also shows a properly-aligned list of discovered zones, how many coins they have, how many you’ve collected, and it puts a little golden checkmark if you’ve completed an area.

Moving between discovered Warp Shrines is now done using a dedicated Warp key (X on a gamepad, or C on the keyboard). You hold down Warp, and the display will show you which shrines are active (in case you missed an early one by being too anxious to get out of the ruins!), and arrows will light up to show which direction you can warp to. This should stop any accidental warping due to using the map view a little too excitedly.

Other improvements include some redesigned areas (the rear-end of the ship should be less poop-decky now, har har), wide-screen support for those who don’t want too authentic an experience, and a camera-lock toggle that disables the “predictive look-ahead” that might give some players motion-sickness.

And lastly, for people who prefer to use “the other hand” for movement, you can also use WSAD and JKL for movement and jump/zoomout/warp.
